"Cat" is short for "category." The climbs are rated according to how long and hard they are. They are ranked Category 1-4, with 4 being the "easiest" (I'm not sure they're so easy!) and 1 being the "hardest." But wait- there's even a harder one! Climbs that are rated "Hors Categorie" (above category) are longer and steeper than a Category 1. That sounds HARD!

Sunglasses!

Almost all the guys are wearing sunglasses. When I was young I hated sunglasses, but now I wear them all the time. My Mom used to tell me that I needed to wear them or I would ruin my eyes. Well, i had to have eye surgery last year because one of my eyes had a problem because of too many years in sun and wind with no glasses! She was right! If you look at the race, most guys will always have on sunglasses. Besides being good for your vision everyday and during the race, the protection will help you in the fuure. Plus they look really cool....
