LEADER'S JERSEYS
- During the Tour, each rider wears the jersey that represents their team. The teams are usually sponsored by various companies or businesses. For example, Colombia is a sports clothing maker. But there are also jerseys that represent the leaders in various competitions throughout the race. The most famous, of course, is the YELLOW JERSEY. The yellow jersey is worn at the start of each stage by the rider who is leading the race on overall time. This is the most important competition in the race, and whoever wears this jersey after the finish in Paris is the winner! The GREEN JERSEY is worn by the leader of the points competition, usually known as the best sprinter. Points are awarded at various spots along the route and at every stage finish. The POLKA DOT JERSEY is known as the king of the mountains jersey. Mountain points are awarded at the top of any categorized climb, and if the climb is also the finish of the stage- double points! The WHITE JERSEY is for the best young rider. The best-placed rider in the overall standings who is 25 or younger wears this jersey. Mike's dad says, shouldn't there be a jersey for the oldest rider too? The GREY JERSEY!!!
