When Do We EAT?
- Ever wonder when and how the riders eat during a long stage? First of all, they eat a healthy breakfast 2 or 3 hours before each stage. Fruit, juice, cereal, eggs, meat, yogurt, it's all good fuel for bike racing! During the actual race, there are usually several "feed zones" set up along the course. At these points, people that work for each team will hand the riders a special bag of food, also known as a musette. The musette has a strap on the top, which the riders can swing over their shoulder while they pick out the food items. They then put some items in their jersey pockets, and eat whatever looks good at the moment. Having food in the jersey pockets makes for easy access. Of course, eating a healthy dinner after each stage is very important for recovery so you can race again tomorrow!
